How a Crypto Payments App Grew Its AI Overview Citations 10x in Six Months

Share

Crypto is a low-trust category where people lean on AI assistants to explain how payments, wallets, and security work. The brands cited in those answers earn credibility that’s hard-won. Despite that, Fractl grew a crypto payments app’s Google AI Overview citations roughly tenfold in just six months, using original research and AI search content to build the authority behind it.

The Challenge

Share

The app had almost no presence in AI answers and a thin backlink profile, so it rarely showed up when someone asked how crypto payments work.

In a space where trust is the barrier to adoption, being absent from AI answers meant losing the explanation (and the customer) to someone else. It needed authority signals that content answer engines could cite, and fast.

What Fractl Did

We built credibility through original data. Fractl ran a digital PR program grounded in research campaigns, surveys, and data studies on crypto payroll, wallet adoption, and consumer trust, which earned links and brand mentions across mainstream outlets.

We paired that earned authority with answer-first content, giving AI engines clear, sourced answers to cite while the coverage built the high-authority link profile models look for.

The Results

Visibility multiplied from a low base.

AI Overview citations grew roughly tenfold to 545, and top-three keyword rankings tripled to 292.

The campaigns added 714 referring domains and 11,500 backlinks, lifting Domain Rating from 45 to 59, while organic keywords grew from 436 to 657 and AI Mode responses reached 281. A study on workers wanting to be paid in crypto and another on Americans abandoning physical cards drove much of the coverage that made the gains stick.

aGrowth from a standing start: Before and After a Six-Month Engagement. Bar chart showing AI Overview citations increased from 54 to 545, Top-3 rankings increased from 100 to 292, and Referring domains increased from 1,388 to 2,100.

What Emerging Brands Can Learn From This Campaign

Original data buys trust you can’t claim

In a skeptical category, sourced research earns the coverage and citations that assertions never will.

A thin backlink profile is a starting line, not a ceiling

Adding hundreds of referring domains through earned media builds the authority AI engines reward, quickly.

Newsworthy angles travel

Campaigns tied to money, work, and behavior earn the broad coverage that lifts both citations and rankings.

AI SEO FAQs

What is AI SEO?

AI SEO is optimizing your brand’s presence in AI-driven search, from Google AI Overviews to chatbots. It combines answer-first content, structured data, and earned authority so AI engines cite you.

Can a new brand compete in AI search?

Yes. Because citations follow useful, well-sourced answers and earned authority, a newer brand can grow fast, the way this app grew its AI Overview citations tenfold in six months.

Why does digital PR matter for AI visibility?

AI models favor brands with credible, widely referenced coverage. Digital PR earns the links and brand mentions that build that authority.
